Winners Kees-Jan and Elise flew to Venice for a weekend trip and they had a sneak peak behind the scenes at our designstudio. Read their travel story here.
We were very happy and surprised by winning this trip to Venice. On Friday the 23rd of October 2015 we left Amsterdam at 14:20 to fly to Venice. After arriving we took a taxi to Piazzale Roma, from where we took the Vaporetti (boat) to San Marco square. From there we went to our hotel: JW Marriott Venice Resort & Spa.
The hotel was incredible! Based on an island, we had a lovely room with a lot of space and a beautiful view over the city of Venice. In the evening we had our dinner at the restaurant, which is based on the top floor of the hotel, which gave us a great view and good food.
The next morning we had an appointment with Salvatore Cascone at Piazzale Roma. He brought us to the design office of no man’s land, where the head of design Anet was waiting for us. We got to see some examples of how a collection is made and created, of which Anet explained the whole process.
We also heard about how Anet and Salvatore got their idea to set up their business and the challenges they have faced. It was very special to hear their story. Then they told us about the small family companies and how they work for No Man’s Land - in the area of Venice - and how the craft of 'knitting' is transmitted from generation to generation. After the inspiring visit, we were invited by Anet and Salvatore for a lunch in their favourite restaurant, which led to a warm welcome by the Italian owner of the restaurant and we had this lovely lunch. After lunch, we said goodbye to Anet and Salvatore brought us back to Piazzale Roma. That afternoon we moved around in Venice, sightseeing while enjoying the sunny weather. In the evening we had a lovely dinner and went back to our beautiful hotel afterwards.
On Sunday morning we had some time left to get up a bit later and had breakfast with prosecco! Afterwards we went to the airport and traveled back to the Netherlands.
Anet and Salvatore, thank you for this wonderful weekend!
